After reading ‘When The Game Was Ours’ I have grown an appreciation for Larry Bird that I never had.

You see, I’ve got a dad who recorded every ‘Showtime Laker’ playoff game on VHS and still watches them to this day, as if their live - yelling at the TV when the Lake show should have drove to the basket or smacking his fists against the floor on a lousy call by the refs. His enthusiasm took my enjoyment of the sport to another level. And with this, it was hard to see other teams compare to the Lakers.

I mean I grew up with Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Byron… who could ask for more?

But, the book shed some light on Larry Bird that I had never heard about. I knew he wasn’t a loud player or a show-off, but the book explains how he always kept a deep understanding of his roots - which is incredibly admirable.

Man, I wish the game now was like it was back then. It was something else.

Jumps & Drop Kicks

Jumps & Drop Kicks

Darcy’s Veggie Feast -

Especially if you have 15 bucks and 4 hours to spare - Boston ain’t that far. Heck, my commute to Santa Monica from La Mirada was 3 and I was still in the same state.

‘I’ve never seen this many Asians at a dive bar...

‘I’ve never seen this many Asians at a dive bar before…’

Apps: Calamari, Spring Rolls, Tuna Tartare, Ravioli

Everything was to perfection. But the all-star of the night was the ravioli - they were amazing. I not particularly a fan of mushrooms, but the mix of lobster, mushrooms and pecorino made for a great surprise.

Entree: Crab legs

Being possibly allergic to lobster I went for the crab legs which ended up being phenomenal. The legs were huge, full of flavor and kept me pretty satisfied.

I must say, since moving to NY I’ve done some pretty interesting things – cheered on stable races, felt bougie at a steeplechase and now… experienced a dog show.

I’m not a huge fan of dogs (or animals in general) because I’m allergic to fur. But, I couldn’t turn down the offer of going to one of the most popular dog shows the world has to offer. Especially since I would see clips of the show on TV all the time (or what felt like all the time, even though it’s only once a year).

So it was and wasn’t what I expected.

I knew the arena would be setup like it was - a bunch of boxes distributed along the border that were used as place cards for the dog and owner/trainers, an inspection area, and an open track type setup where the dogs would strut their stuff.

The judging schedules were similar to how I pictured it as well. All of the dogs get inspected, then they walk around the green showing off their posture, and finally there are 2 rounds of elimination and then one dog is selected. The only part I was confused about here was that it seemed like there was only one judge and the decisions were abrupt. You would think they would have a panel select the winners.

The portion that threw me in a loop was the pre-staging area. Walking in I thought all of the dogs would be displayed in an all white room on tables and platforms. They were actually contained within a warehouse-esque type of room and haphazardly setup in the middle with a walkway around them. You could see that they tried to have some type of uniformity with a path, but there were too many people (trainers, owners and spectators) to distinguish any proper route. Some of the dogs were in their crates, others were walking with their people and some were being groomed.

But in the clutter, we found some flat out scary looking dogs as well as some of the most beautiful canines ever. (I didn’t take any pictures of the scary ones)

Some of the caregivers seemed to be an interesting bunch themselves:

A lady was watching over her poodle’s hairstylist as he cut the dogs hair as if this was the dog’s first haircut. But I understood this, she wanted to make sure the cut was perfection

Before the dog went on to inspection platform, the owner/trainer brushed its hair but in the same motion brushed her own hair at the same time. That was just nasty.

Another owner/trainer was straightening her dog’s hair with a flatiron. This could border animal cruelty right?!

All in all, it was good experience and I was happy I went. Would I go again? Probably not. But I think if you get the opportunity to go, you should go at least once.

On the hunt for grub on a late Saturday afternoon, we came across this place looking for ramen. Instead, we found 3 places that only served curry. So, we folded.

The spot is small, has a bar-esque setup, and can fit about 20 people.

Our server was friendly and our food came out pretty quick, which is always a nice plus.

I ordered the ‘Hot’ Beef Dried Curry entree with a Lychee Lassi

The entre was phenomenal full of flavor and a good amount for a guy who was starving. But next time, I’ll make sure to order their ‘Very Hot’ because this one didn’t have much of a kick.

The lassi was AMAZING! At first, I was surprised to see ‘lassi’ on the menu, thought it was an Indian-only thing, so I had to try it. Man, step aside mangos, you’ve got some competition!

Now, I just have to try the rest of the curry spots on the block to compare.

Wow… #RIPWhitney

Wow… #RIPWhitney

On Repeat: MC Xander - Sick Of The Lies #GoodMusic

On Repeat: MC Xander - Sick Of The Lies #GoodMusic

Now I understand why my Facebook feed has had Jeremy Lin...

Now I understand why my Facebook feed has had Jeremy Lin trending for such a long time. Where did this guy come from? And, how long is this streak going to last?

So, watching the Lakers at MSG was pretty impressive. Had no idea that there was such a big following out here. Every Laker shot sunk and foul called on the Knicks was accompanied by an amazing amount of cheer.

I did, however, get a few dirty looks in the Subway while on my way to and from the game since I was decked with my Laker 59Fifty and purp&yellow Hiero shirt.
Crostini Tasting #1: Prosciutto, Ricotta, Fig, Olive, Walnut - Amazing.

Crostini Tasting #2: Shrimp, Avocado, Cilantro, Tomato - I think was expecting something different.

App: Beer Carpaccio - First time and definitely won’t be my last.
