First Five Guys experience in NY. Gotta admit it wasn’t too shabby, but my heart is still with In-N-Out. (Taken with Instagram at Five Guys Burgers & Fries)

Had to wait for my pops to visit to have my first New York hot dog. I should have taken a pic of his face at first bite, so memorable. (Taken with instagram)

Lunch @ Dylan Prime

Coming for lunch? Gotta plan to make it a long one, you may know what you want but that won’t help you.

So we came through for a Friday lunch. The restaurant and lounge were empty. Kind of made sense due to the vicinity. But while we were there the place filled up. The only problem with this place was that they didn’t account for the lunch rush, there was only one server <slash> bartender <slash> host and two bussers. So it took a really long time for us to even order and it wasn’t like the server was running around either.

The superstar app was the Pork Belly Tater Tots but you could taste the extreme fattiness.

For my entree I got the cheesesteak but I split it with a coworker who got the burger. Both were great but nothing extraordinary.

Oh, Ditch Plains - How I have come here so many times, but this time around you got me…
So in this visit I bit the bullet and got the Ditch Dog - a hot dog with mac n’ cheese on top. Good stuff, super fattening, and food coma ready.
Fortunately, one of my coworkers ordered the Sloppy Joe Dog, so we split our plates in half. The sloppy joe was alright and oddly sweet. Being a fan of the savory, I enjoyed the mac n’ cheese more.
But both of these dished could be made at home, which made the price totally unreasonable.

Dinner @ The Old Homestead

Apps: Breadsticks, Roasted Onion Soup, Tuna Tartar, Bang Bang Shrimp, Mac&Cheese, Creamed Spinach & Kobe Slab Bacon

Main Course: Medium Well Butterflied Filet

Dessert: Mixed Berries

Okay, so this place is interesting - it has the classic steakhouse feel with girls in super short dresses as their hosts. Maybe that was their vision on hitting the ‘hip’ steakhouse market?

In any case, the venue is nice. Shiny wood grained walls and the setting isn’t quite so you can have conversation without whispering.

Our server was a guy named Yova who didn’t mind explaining anything. I think he spent about 20min explaining to me what a butterflied steak was.

The food was good. My steak was a little burnt even though Yova mentioned that butterflying the meat would avoid the burn… However, the gem of the meal was the bacon slabs. Oh.My.Goodness. These guys should be an entree! They were full of taste, not chewy but not stiff, and could be rocked with a side of mash.

DInner @ Bills

App: Disco Fries - My NEW favorite thing… how did I ever miss this!

Drink: Oreo Shake - Straw compatible Oreo chunks, good stuff

Main: Spicy Jalapeño Burger - Thought it was going to have a kick, but it didn’t. Not even a nudge.

Dinner @ Mercer Kitchen

Apps: Crab Cakes, Shrimp Cocktail, Mac & Cheese, Parmesan Grits, Tuna Spring Roll

Entree: Niman Ranch Pork Chop - The server mentioned it would be a ‘symphony on your palette,’ and it definitely was.

Dessert: Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake, Donuts

Grilled Hanger Steak @ The Buffalo Club
When I had first heard that I was going to the Buffalo Club for lunch I was so excited because previous to moving to W.LA, this spot was on my route during my daily 6-hour round trip trek to work. I would walk by so often that I could be across the street and their night valet would still give me a ‘What Up?’ head nod.
So my opportunity had finally come and I went for their mother load burger - the Grilled Hanger Steak. This was quite an undertaking. Not only was the thing massive, it was fully of sensational flavor which was a little overwhelming.
All in all, my one and only experience within the quarters was quite amazing. The service was great but they don’t allow you to use your phone during the meal, luckily i snuck in the picture above when no one was looking.
